End of May and Memorial Day

Another exciting event in May was the purchase of our brand new (to us) camp trailer! We searched high and low to find the perfect one, and we finally did. It was located in Oklahoma, but the guy was gracious enough to haul it all the way here to deliver it to us. It's everything we had hoped for. There is bunk room in the front, with 4 individual beds, and in the back is a slide out bed for Cahl and I. The inside is nice and roomy and there is a lot of storage space. We are really happy to have it, and look forward to putting it to good use.

Our first trip with the trailer was up to the cabin for Memorial Day. It was a crowded weekend up there, so it was nice to have our own little spot. The kids of course had a great time with all the cousins and friends, riding the 4 wheelers and dirt bikes. The kids are all especially happy with the zip line. In fact, they were all so excited about it, they tried to convinced me to try it. How hard can it be right? Come on, EVERYone has done it! Alright fine. Trying to be the cool mom that I am, and hide my terror of being off the ground, I agreed to try. And I fell off. Not near the bottom, or even halfway down. No. I fell from the very TOP. I hung on for just long enough to let go and fell flat on my back from 10 feet up. It knocked the wind out of me and I spent the next few minutes crying and making some sort of choking donkey noise while trying to get my air back. So the rest of my weekend was spent high on painkillers and trying not to breath. I came home bruised from the bottom of my butt to the top of my shoulders, with a few cracked ribs. Yay me.

May

May this year involved mainly soccer games, scouts, and school. Tristan's team had him, with 2 of his good friends. Jasen's team had him, plus his best friend and 3 other friends. Hunter's team had him and 3 of his friends. And it was really cool because 2 different friends of ours coached Jasen's and Hunter's teams.

At the end of the month, Hunter graduated from preschool, for the second and last time. He did really well with preschool again, and he is so excited that now he gets to go to the "big" school with his brother!

Tristan graduated the DARE program at school this month. He worked hard, and paid attention during the whole course- coming home many times and telling us all about the things he had learned. It cracked me up, because I can remember doing the DARE program when I was his age, and not much has changed!

April

At the very beginning of April, we had an Easter egg hunt with a bunch of our friends at a park. The kids all had a great time and it was a lot of fun.

Also at the beginning of April, we celebrated Brinley's second birthday! I can't believe how big she's getting, so cute and so smart.

Jasen's GATE class held an egg drop contest, where each kid had to construct something to hold an egg and keep it from breaking after being thrown from the roof of the school. They got extra points for using recycled materials, and also for using as few pieces as possible. Cahl and Jasen found a thick piece of foam, folded it in half, and cut out a small spot on the inside for the egg to snugly fit into. Then they tied the foam together tightly with a piece of string, so his entry only had 2 parts- 1 piece of foam folded to squeeze the egg, and 1 piece of string to hold it. And Jasen won the contest! He had the fewest pieces, and his egg did not break!

At the school awards, Jasen recieved the A-B Honor Roll, and the Attendance award. Tristan also recieved the A-B Honor Roll, the Attendance award, and the Citizenship award.

The end of March

After we got back from our trip, it was back to reality. All three boys played soccer, so we had 3 games every Saturday. It was really nice that they league they played in had all their games at the same field every week. It saved us a lot of splitting up and driving all over town. Also toward the end of March, Cahl and I hiked to the top of Lone Mountain. It's something I have wanted to do for a while, and it was fun. It was really windy that day, but we made it to the top! The view of the city is pretty amazing from up there.

To celebrate our anniversary this year, Cahl surprised me with tickets to see LOVE, the Cirque show at the Mirage. It was so incredible! I'm in love with the Beatles as it is, and seeing that show was a big dream of mine. We had great seats, and the show was beyond fabulous! Thank you Cahl, for making a little dream come true :)

Miami and home again

After we were done snorkeling, we drove back up to Miami. Cahl really wanted to go on an Airboat tour of the Everglades, so that was our next stop. The boats are cool, and seeing the gators and cranes was pretty cool too.

After our ride through the swamp, we found our hotel and promptly took a nap. Once we were rested, we set out to find some dinner. I was super duper hungry (and therefore a little crabby), so when we turned a corner right behind the hotel to find none other than my favorite Johnny Rockets, I nearly cried with joy!

Then next morning, we went down to South Beach for a while. The buildings were all really pretty, and I wish we had taken some photos of them, but we didn't get a single one. We did walk around and find some souvenirs for the kids, and after lunch we started heading toward the airport. We had time to chill out and go to a movie, before hopping on the plane home. It was a fabulous five days! We did do much and had so much fun, and I'm really happy we were able to go.

Snorkeling

The next morning after we reluctantly checked out of Casa Thorn, we drove up toward Key Largo to do some snorkeling. We got on the boat and headed 7 miles out to the reef. By the time we got out to where we going to be, Cahl was throwing up over the side of the boat. Not really a good sign considering we had both taken Dramamine beforehand. But we got our gear and got in. At first I was kind of paralyzed and didn't want to put my face down. So Cahl dragged me along while he snorkeled and I just bobbed along behind him. Finally I stuck my face down, and it was super cool. The coral is so beautiful, and it was really cool to have the fish swimming all around you. Then suddenly Cahl and I both threw up. Again. Right in the water. Ugh. I guess all that bobbing really isn't cool for someone like me who gets motion sick easily anyway.

Once we started snorkeling again, we looked down and saw a huge Barracuda right below us. I nearly had a heart attack, but it thankfully he didn't come any closer.

My awesome underwater self portrait:

When the trip was over, we made it back to shore without too much more sea sickness. It was definitely a fun experience and one that I'm glad we did.
