This year Jasen chose to do a project for National History Day. This years theme was Leadership and Legacy, and Jasen did his presentation on former NFL player Mel Blount. He waited until the last minute to do his project, so it wasn't the best quality work, but he still presented to the judges and did a good job with his speech. He didn't place in his division, but one of his best friends from school won first place so he was really excited about that.

Tonight was Hunter's first Blue and Gold banquet for scouts. It was Fiesta themed, and the kids all had a ton of fun with the piñatas. They had a cake decorating contest, and Hunter was so excited for that. Cahl took him to the store and they spent the whole night before baking and decorating his cake. He chose to make a tank cake, and it turned out great! He was so proud of it, and he won the "Most Patriotic" award. It was a really fun time, and it's so fun to get to go through scouts with Hunter.

The weather has been nice enough that we decided to go ahead and have our back patio expanded. When we built our house, we had an extra patio section put in, but we always wanted it to extend the full length of the house. So the patio is now the full length of the house, and an extra 2 feet deep, with a 2 foot stamped edge all the way around. It looks great, and we are so happy with it.

Last weekend we decided to go over to visit Cahl's mom in Oregon. We left Friday as soon as the kids got home from school, and came back Monday. Saturday we went to a rock garden that a guy had built in the 1930s and 40s. It was pretty impressive. Brinley had a great time "talking" with the peacocks.
On Sunday, we went to the Fun Center. The kids like to go there to bowl, play video games and ride the bumper cars. The kids also had fun playing tetherball and making s'mores.
On Monday we headed home. We decided to go the longer way, through John Day, so that we could see some of the projects Cahl has been working on, and get some rocks for some back yard projects we have in mind.

Cahl and the older 2 boys ventured up to the annual Klondike campout this weekend. Unfortunately, this year was a bit of a dud. We haven't really gotten any snow since December, but we've gotten quite a bit of rain in the last few weeks and all the snow has melted. So the boys stayed in their tents instead of snow caves, and it rained and the wind howled the whole time. They still did a lot of activities and games, but Cahl and our boys decided to head home early since it was so miserable and we had company coming anyway. Hopefully next year will be better!
