Playing Catch Up

Wow, a lot has gone on since the new year began! Tristan has by far had the most eventful month. He turned 11 on the 12th and had a great birthday. In fact, he told me it was his best one yet! Tristan had been saving for the last few months for an ipod, and he had saved half of the amount when his birthday rolled around. Well, for his birthday he received $100 which he was SO excited about, because he finally had enough for his ipod. And he was so proud to pick out and pay for it himself. Cahl and I also got him a case and charger for it and helped him download some things he wanted, as well as a rocket building kit. His brothers also got his some new Skylanders for the Wii game. On Saturday night, I took him, and 3 friends out to dinner at Johnny Rockets, the arcade and a movie. They all had a great time, and it was a lot of fun. Also this month, Tristan ran for his school's treasurer on the student council. And he won! He is super proud, of course we are also super proud of him, and he is so excited to get started with that. Tristan also began Boy Scouts this month after his birthday. He's happy to be with his friends, and working on all the "big kid" stuff.

Christmas this year was great! We spent the day togehter as a family, and the kids all loved their gifts! Tristan got: movies, a book, headphones, legos, a BSU shirt, and a big stereo. Jasen got: legos, a pocket knife, pants, a BSU shirt, a Wii game, and a Kindle Fire. Hunter got: pants, a transformer, a BSU shirt, a zombie lab, movie, and a remote control truck and tower playset. Brinley got: pajamas, socks, a hat, a dress up trunk, dolls, slippers, and a play kitchen. Cahl got ammo, a back scratcher, underclothes, a coffee mug, wall hook, and a thermometer for his smoker. I got a new set of drinking glasses, a Green Bay jersey, jewelry, slippers, scarf, water bottle, and pants. And the whole family got an Xbox 360 with games, and the boys nearly peed themselves with joy!

Sledding

We had our annual Christmas Eve sledding day up at Mt Charleston. It was just our family this year, but the kids all had a great time. Brinley loved riding down in the tubes, eating marshmellows, and she even fell asleep in a chair. The boys also loved coming down, and each one of them faceplanted at least once. We made hot chocolate and hot dogs, and shared with a family from Florida who seemed a little chillier than we were.

Pack Night

For this months pack night, all the boys along with their leaders, went caroling. They went to 3 widows' homes in our ward, and they all did a great job singing. The ladies loved it, and when they were done went back to have treats and get their awards. Jasen received his Wolf, along with a gold arrow point and a silver arrow point. Tristan received his Compass emblem, 1 compass point, along with his naturalist pin and his craftsman pin. It was a great night!

Early Christmas

Since Cahl's mom was here only a week before Christmas, we decided to do an early mini Christmas with her. It was really nice, and we all got a ton of nice new things. The boys got a new Wii game they have been dying for and hats that they love, Cahl got a Best Buy gift card to put toward the new TV he is eyeing, Brinley got a baby, and a hat that she loves, and I got my very own- first ever- Carhartt coat, and a new dishwasher!! My dishwasher has been slowly puttering out for a few months now, and this was such a nice gift! We definitely go through a LOT of dishes around here, so that was so nice.

Graduation Day!

The day has FINALLY come for Cahl's graduation!! His Commencement Ceremony was this morning at the Thomas and Mack center at UNLV. The ceremony was really nice, and almost 2,000 people graduated. Cahl's mom and step dad both made the trip down for him, and in the evening we had a really nice dinner party at the house. Lots of family and friends came, and it was really wonderful to see everyone.

Cahl, we are so so SO proud of you. For all the hard work and studying you have done over the last few years, all while being the most amazing husband and dad. You do so much for us, and we can always count on you. You are an incredible guy, and we love you so much!

This afternoon the Senior Design winners were announced at a Happy Hour/Luncheon. Unfortunately, Cahl and his team didn't win. I demand a recount, because they were clearly robbed! Toward the end of the shindig, there was an ugly sweater contest. And what do you know? Cahl and his very festive sweater won! So proud of him!!

For Hunter's birthday, the older boys happened to be out of school for the day, so we took everyone to Chuck E. Cheese for lunch and games. The boys had a great time, and so did Brinley! She loved riding the rides and climbing up in the big play gym. Later in the evening, we had cake and presents. He got new shoes and clothes, toys, legos and his very own DS.

This evening, we lit and decorated our tree. The boys love hanging their ornaments on, and Brinley had fun trying to take them off and stealing candy canes!

Del Mar

After getting all of our trees, we drove down the road a few more mile to the Del Mar site. Del Mar was a huge mining town over a hundred years ago, and now of course it's just ruins. But we love to see that kind of history, so we really enjoyed going out there. On the way there, we found a shaft that went straight down, and the boys and Cahl had fun tossing in rocks and listening for them to hit bottom so they could figure out how deep the hole was. The kids all had a great time seeing the old stone buildings and mining cars, and running around finding treasures. We packed a lunch with us, so after all the exploring was done, we took a break and ate. We also checked out the small cemetery on the way back.

Tree Hunting

Yesterday we headed up toward Caliente to go tree hunting again this year. We got 5 trees- 4 to decorate the front yard, and one for inside. We decided to go to the same area as last year, and the kids all had a lot of fun running around finding their trees. We even ran into 2 little bucks on the way up the hill.

Today was the 1st trimester awards at Tristan and Jasen's school. Jasen received both the Attendance award and the Straight A Honor Roll. Tristan also received the Attendance award, as well as making the A-B Honor Roll! We are so proud of both of them!!

Senior Design

This semester, Cahl worked with 2 other classmates as a team on his Senior Design Project. They chose to do their project on combined sewer piping systems. They worked hard for months doing research, writing their reports, building a model and more to enter their project into the Senior Design competition held today. Hunter, Brinley and I went down to check out their project, as well as the other 12. There were a lot of people there, including local business people, professors, ect. Cahl's project looked great, and he'll find out the results of the competition next week.

This year we had a really low key Thanksgiving, which is always nice. We grilled a beer can turkey, and it turned out so good! The next day, Friday, we went over to Cahl's uncle's house for a big family brisket dinner. Dinner was great, and so was the company.

Museum

Today we took the kids down to the Springs Preserve to check out the newly opened State History Museum. First we went to the Preserve's Nature exchange so the boys could turn in some sand dollars. While the guy was assessing their items and assigning points, he told Jasen "I'll give you 900 points for this one, and 600 for this smaller one." Without blinking an eye, Jasen says "650." The girl sitting next to the guy working there started giggling, and the guy, looking completely baffled goes "Did you just say 650 to me?" He looked up at me, amused and yet totally bewildered. I just started laughing and shrugged. The guy looks back at Jasen and says "Um, ok. I'll give you 650 for it." You could tell that nobody has ever dared to haggle with him before, and I think he found it pretty funny after being initially caught off guard. What can I say? Jasen is clearly learning his negotiating skills from Pawn Stars, and I have to say, he's off to a great start! So once they were done with their trading, we walked over to the museum. It was pretty neat, with a ton of our state's history. They were all really excited to see the huge mammoth, and our state's fossil- an Ichthyosaur, genus Shonisaurus. Tristan and Jasen knew all about it, and proceeded to give me a fossil lesson. Tristan was also quite taken by the showgirl exhibit. He is very impressed that ladies can balance headdresses that size on their heads, while wearing such tiny outfits! The meseum had a lot of cool stuff, and it will be fun to go back and check it all out again.

Tonight Cahl and I went down to the BSU vs UNLV game. I am a HUGE Bronco fan, and have been waiting forever for them to come back to Vegas so I could go see them. I started bugging Cahl about tickets months ago, and as soon as the student tickets were available, he brought 2 home! The game was so good! Of course the Broncos won, 48-21. The stands were a sea of blue and orange, and I proudly wore my blue in the UNLV student section!

Fall Festival

Tonight was the boys' annual Fall Festival at school. They had a great time playing games, going through the hunted house, and hanging out with their friends. This year, we have the Stay Puft Marshmellow man, Colonel Sanders, Elroy Jetson, and Dorothy :) They always get tons of compliments on their costumes, and several of the teachers this year came and told us how much they look forward to seeing our kids' costumes every year!

Today I was doing laundry, and I asked Hunter to bring my dirty basket downstairs for me. He brought it down and I said "Hey buddy, will you run up and get my bra for me, so I can wash it too?" Hunter says "Your WHAT?? Is that the thing that goes on your boobies?" Yep. He brought it down pinched in two fingers with the most horrified look on his face. :)

A little later in the day, I was getting ready to make him lunch. He said he wanted a ham and cheese sandwich. I told him we had run out of ham and asked if peanut butter and jelly would be ok instead. He sighed very loudly and said "No. (another very loud sigh) I guess I'll just have to take a PB and J."

Nursery

Today was Brinley's first day at nursery. Cahl and I have been taking her in every now and again to get used to the other kids and teachers, especially since she's always been so clingy. She's done really well for the last few months, and today she did really well. When I dropped her off, I stood aside for a few minutes to watch her and she just made herself comfortable at a table and completely ignored me. She did really well for over an hour, and then decided that she was done for the day. I am so proud of her for doing so well!

Little Miss Brin is 18 months old now, and she is a certifiable terror! She is into EVERYTHING, and wreaks havoc everywhere she goes. I feel like every time I get one mess cleaned up, she already has another one waiting for me.

*She weighs 25 pounds and is 31 1/4 inches tall.

*She just moved into size 2T clothing, and is in a size 5 or 6 shoe. She also still wears size 5 diapers.

*She now has 10 teeth- 4 molars, the top 4 front teeth, and the middle 2 bottom.

*Her hair is just as crazy as ever. Super curly and getting long. She loves it when I put bows or clips in, but loves it more when she yanks them out.

*She loves to turn the tv off, which torments her brothers to no end.

*She also still loves to pull the books off the shelves, and anything out of any drawers or cabinets she can get into.

*She recently discovered price tags, and will pick any price tag off anything. Mostly books and dvd's.

*She is now big enough to stand on the back of the couch and get into anything on the pony wall, including diapers and wipes, which she will trail all over the house.

*She is still obsessed with the toilets, and if she finds an unlocked door she'll dunk anything and everything into the water, including now clean laundry.

*She LOVES music. She'll quit whatever she's doing to dance and twirl anytime music comes on.

*She loves her princess shoes that Cahl got her. She puts them on and clomps all over the tile.

*She loves to look at herself in the mirror. Or at pictures on the phone or computer.

*She loves water. Taking baths, showers and swimming.

*She is terrified of sitting on the toilet. I've tried putting her on it a few times is she starts to pee, and she hates it and tries to claw her way off.

*She is starting to talk more. She says more (mot-mot), uh oh, get down (dit dooown), mama, dada, daddy, doggy, birdie (doggy). And she just squeals for anything else she wants.

*She still likes to rock to sleep, although she is getting better about putting herself to sleep on the couch when it's nap time.

*She loves to mess with the computers. She'll steal the mouse and run away with it, or turn off the laptop when you're in the middle of something.

*She loves to give kisses and hugs. And we love to give them right back!

Red Rock

Yesterday we took a family outing to Red Rock. We hit up the new visitor's center, then drove up to the picnic area. After we had eaten, we headed up the mountain on a hike. The trail we took was not too bad, fairly steep but easy ground, and just over 3 miles round trip. At the very top there is a little pond, and the boys had a great time wading and looking for frogs. I'm so proud of the boys. All 3 of them walked the entire way by themselves and never complained. On the way home we went out to Bonnie Springs in search of burros, and we found one! We pulled over and all got out to feed him our leftover fruit. He was very friendly, and we named him Gimpy Gus due to his injured ankle. He even followed me back to the car, and stuck his nose through the window to steal more chips and kisses. The boys thought it was hysterical that their mom had kissed an ass! I'm glad we went out and had a nice family day, and I'm glad the kids had so much fun.

Today was the school's annual parents vs kids kickball tournament. Since Cahl played last year, he decided that this was my year to play. I have to say, I was not really looking forward to it, but ended up having a great time!

I have decided to add a new feature to my blog: Hunterisms. Hunter says some of the funniest stuff, and I want to make a record of it so it doesn't get forgotten.

Today, on the way home from playgroup in the afternoon, I asked Hunter what he had learned at preschool in the morning. His response: "I have no clue." I just laughed and said "well next time I guess you'll have to pay more attention." To which Hunter said, very indignantly, "I was paying attention! But I still have no idea what she was talking about!" Oh Hunter... :)

Hunter's Ed

Tristan, Jasen and I all took Hunter's Education this week. Here in Nevada, for hunter's ed, you have to complete a workbook before going to 7 hours of class, followed by a test. I am proud to say that both of the boys did their workbooks (mostly) themselves, and were also responsible for themselves during the class. In order to pass, you have to score 80 on a scorecard, which scores your safety and handling, and score 80 on the test. I scored 96 on the test, and I am not sure about my scorecard, but I passed. Tristan scored 80 on his test and 82 on his scorecard, and he also passed. Jasen scored 80 on his scorecard and 78 on his test. Apparently, if you score between 70-80 on your test the instructors can judge and either pass or fail you. They failed Jasen. They thought he was to young and a little too small for their comfort. But they never told him his scores. So Cahl went down to the office the next day to see Jasen's scores and find out what he needed to work on. After talking with the head instructor, the instructor decided to pass Jasen, since Jasen's scores were high and he will only be hunting with adults till he is 12 anyway. So in the end, all 3 of us passed Hunter's Ed, and I don't think Cahl could be more proud or excited!

Yesterday was Hunter's first day of preschool. He was so excited to go! This year there are only 4 kids in his class, 3 of them are the same and they have 1 new friend. Us moms have made some slight modifications to our curriculum for this year, and I am excited to see how it all works out.

So last Thursday morning, while I standing in the toothpaste aisle, Cahl called me and asked what I thought about taking a quick trip out of town for the weekend. I said sounds great, and once he got home from work we started checking out places and calling around. We decided to head back to our old home of San Clemente, CA, and booked a suite right on the beach. We didn't tell the kids our plan, but sneakily packed everything up and as soon as Jasen's baptism was over Saturday afternoon, we loaded up and took off. We arrived in San Clemente and got checked in at 10:30, and they were all so excited. As soon as we got there, we were all out on the balcony checking out the view and a train went by. Brinley LOVED the trains! The first one scared her to death, but then she started laughing and waving. She would stop whatever she was doing any time a train came and run out to wave at it.

Sunday morning we got up early and headed to Surfin Donuts. They are the absolute best! After sitting outside and having our donuts and chocolate milk, we cruised down to the Farmer's Market. When we lived there, we loved to go to the Farmer's Market, and tried to get down there a few times a month. This time, Cahl picked out and bought me 2 bracelets and a pair of earrings. And we also got some fresh tamales, elephant ears, and the boys picked out honey sticks. When Tristan was little, his favorite thing to do was get honey sticks at the farmer's market! After walking the market, we went down and had breakfast on the pier. After we were stuffed beyond belief, we got all changed and walked over to the beach. San Clemente beach is beautiful, but it's also really rocky. So the bigger boys boogie boarded for a while, and the littler two played in the sand and built castles. The hotel we stayed at was so cool, they had a ton of beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and even sand toys that you could borrow any time. So we took full advantage of that, given the fact that we have a very small array of those things now that we don't live by the beach anymore. So once we were done, we headed back to the room to shower and take naps. Once the little two fell asleep, Cahl and the older two went up to Doheny Beach to play some more, and I stayed back to nap with the babes. Then once Brinley and I woke up, we sat out on the balcony and had a snack while we watched the surfers. After a while, when the big boys all got home and Hunter woke up, we went as a family back to Dohney Beach just to hang out. By then it was getting a little later and chillier, so we didn't stay too long. Brinley LOVED the birds, and she had the best time chasing them all over the beach! After we packed back up, we cruised back through town and stopped to pick up dinner at La Tiendita (the ghetto burrito). After dinner, we just hung out for a while. Cahl and I sat on the balcony and watched the sun go down, and it was so nice and quiet and relaxing.

We got up early Sunday morning and walked out to the end of the pier. Brinley chased more birds, and the boys got to see some of the fishermen catching fish. We also stood and watched the surfers for a little while, before heading up to breakfast. After we had eaten, we packed up and headed out for home. On the way, we made a stop in Riverside at the Castle Park. We decided to skip Disneyland this time, since we knew it would be super crowed on a holiday, and this park was smaller and there were way less people to have to deal with. It was a good call, because the kids had a blast! There were virtually no wait times for any of the rides, and since we bought them wristbands, they went on every ride multiple times. They even coerced me to go on 3 (yes 3!) rides. I went on the Dragon's Breath, a tower that shoots you straight up in the air a few stories then free falls back down. The log ride, which is a water ride with one small and one HUGE drop into the water and I got soaked. And finally the Falling Star, where you sit and the entire platform goes up and then back down, many times and very fast. It was the most terrifying. I only agreed to go on it because Jasen was so excited to go on it, and no one else would go with him even though you had to have a partner to ride. So I went out of guilt and will never to that again. After we had ridden all the rides and had dinner, we loaded up and came home. It was a quick trip, but it was full of fun and great memories!

Jasen was baptized and confirmed today. Our cousins were unable to make it down from Utah, so it was just our family and a few friends from our ward. But Jasen has been looking forward to this day for a long time, and it was so nice for him.

Tristan and Jasen headed back to school today. Jasen is excited to be with his friend in Ms. Rodrigues' class, and Tristan seems to be pretty happy to have Mrs. Newby. We went down and met both teachers last week, and they seem very nice and on top of things. It's a little sad knowing that this is Tristan's last year of elementary school, but it's exciting too.

Last night was another Pack night for our scouts. This month was very special because Tristan received his Arrow of Light, which is the highest award a cub scout can earn. He also earned his Webelo badge, Religious Knot, and a compass emblem. Tristan and the other boys who earned their Arrows of Light were also welcomed into the Boy Scouts, and once they will advance up when they each turn 11. So Tristan now has his Boy Scout neckerchief, slide and book, and he is excited to join the big boys in January.

This month Jasen also earned his Badminton beltloop, and he was pretty happy about that.

Today Cahl celebrated his Dirty 30! I made cards for each kid to fill out, with a picture of each kid with their dad, and they wrote down their favorite things about him. Then I bought a 4 section frame, and we framed the cards and gave it to Cahl. We also got him new pants, and sticking with tradition- new socks. Tristan was also very excited to order Cahl some bbq sauce and rub from Rudy's, their favorite ever bbq place down in Texas. We also took him out to dinner and had a "haircut party" for him and the boys. They all got back-to-school haircuts! I even made him one of my famous coal bucket cakes for his birthday, and I think he was pretty proud! :) Happy Birthday babe! We love you SO MUCH!!

Catch Up

Wow, it's been a little while since I posted anything on here. I guess today I will play catch up!

All 3 boys went on a week long trip to Oregon to stay with Cahl's mom earlier this month, from the 7th to the 12th. It was weird having them gone, but I also got a lot done around the house so that was nice. And they really had a great time. I gave each one of them a disposable camera to take along, and when I get them film developed I plan to make each of them a scrapbook of their pictures.

While the boys were gone, Cahl and I went out with Brinley one night. We went to dinner, and then headed down to the Strip. I had gotten us some really cheap tickets to Madam Tussuad's wax museum, so we went and saw that. The one here is much smaller than the one in Hollywood, but it was still a cheesy fun thing to do. Since the museum is right in front of the Venetian, we stood out front for a little while and watched the gondolas go by, listening to the gondoliers singing away. That is another cheesy and fun thing that I would like to do at some point while we live here. Then we walked down to Caesar's and walked through the forum shops, before heading back up to watch the Volcano show at the Mirage. Brinley sat on Cahl's shoulders and LOVED the show! She laughed and clapped so loud ever time it exploded. When that show was over, we walked up to see the pirate ship show in front of Treasure Island, but it got cancelled due to wind gusts. But it was still a fun night out for 3!

Since the boys have been home, we have been busy getting ready for school to start. Tristan, Jasen, Cahl and I all start back up on the same day, so it's been busy getting all of our supplies and books ready and class schedules figured out. This will be Cahl's last semester of school, so that is also really exciting for us.

We headed up to the cabin for a few days to get out of the heat with Cahl's mom. It was just us, so it was nice and quiet. The boys had a great time riding the 4 wheelers, and Cahl built them a zip line that kept them busy for hours! We also went up to some underground caves. Not my idea of a great time, but the boys love them, and so I went through with them.

The boys' Raingutter Regatta for Scouts was held last. Both boys worked hard on their boats, and they each ended up taking 4th place. Jasen also finally received his Wolf book, neckerchief and slide. And Tristan received his Readyman pin.

For this weekend's family field trip, we took the kids out to Gilcrease. They had so much fun running up and down the rows, picking apples, tomatoes and other veggies. All in all, they picked 29 apples, 19 tomatoes, a big bowl of carrots, 2 peppers, 2 cucumbers, 2 zucchini, 1 peach and 1 sunburst squash. They were so excited, and had so much fun washing and counting everything. They also made a big salad with their veggies, and Cahl even made apple pie filling. They had a great time, and can't wait to go back and get more!

Tristan and Jasen's end-of-season football party was last night. Our team rented an entire pool, lifeguards and all, and the kids had so much fun! All 3 of the teams were there, and it was nice to see everyone again after a few months off. Brinley loved the pool! Once she got in, we could hardly keep her out. Tristan and Jasen spent all their time going back and forth between the slide and the diving board, and I didn't really get any good pictures of them, but Hunter stayed in the shallow end and had a blast! He is doing so phenomenal in the pool compared to last year. He loves to swim, and even does bobs now! Then of course, after a few hours it was trophy time. Jasen and Tristan both got huge trophies, and they are so proud!

Bass Pro

For this weekend's family fun day, we took the kids out to Bass Pro. We used to go there constantly, but since we live way across town now, we don't make it out there very often. All 3 boys received Bass Pro gift cards last Christmas and for their birthdays, so we decided that it was time for them to go shopping. Each boy picked out a slingshot, and then they combined their money for an ice cream maker! We have been talking about getting one for a few weeks, and we found the perfect one there. We were all pretty excited about it, so on the way home we stopped at the grocery store and got all the things we'd need to make ice cream. They wanted mint chocolate, and it turned out SO GOOD! Cahl also made strawberry, and it was good too. I think that is going to be a great thing to have during the summer, especially here! I just wish I had taken some pictures of it, but next time.

Springs Preserve

We took the kids down to the Springs Preserve today. We hadn't been there for a few months, and they had some new stuff going on. We watched a show about venomous snakes found in the desert, and then watched the zoologists feed the reptiles on display. They also had a new Tree exhibit which was pretty cool. And the boys also traded in some rocks at the Nature Exchange, which they love to do.

15 Months

Brinley went in for her 15 month check up today, and she's still perfect. She weighs 23 pounds 3 ounces, and is 29 1/2 inches tall. So she's just above average for both height and weight. She wears size 18 month clothes, size 4 or 5 shoes, and size 5 diapers. She currently has 7 teeth- 4 molars, her bottom 2 middle front teeth, and one top side tooth. She looks like a snaggle-toothed jack-o-lantern, nothing's lined up!

This year was our first time spending the 4th of July in Vegas, and we stayed pretty low key. We attended a church breakfast, bike parade and talent show in the morning. The boys all decorated their bikes, and Cahl and I built and decorated a mini float for Brinley to ride in. She absolutely loved riding in it, and the boys had fun too. After it got dark, we drove up to the gun range and parked, so we could see the entire valley, and all the fireworks from the casinos. The boys sat on the roof of the truck and had a great time. Then we came home and did our own, which they loved.

Last night was the boys' pack night at Scouts. Tristan received his Aquanaut, Artist, Citizen, Forester, Outdoorsman, and Traveler pins. It was also Jasen's first pack meeting as a scout, and he was so excited! He was welcomed into the Wolf den, and should be receiving his book, neckerchief and slide soon. The meeting was outside last night, and they played water games. My boys had a great time!

I got to realizing that I haven't posted anything about Miss Brin in a while. Well, she is still fabulous! Getting so big, and running around like crazy.

Here are some of her more recent goings-on:

* She loves to tear up books, much to the dismay of the rest of us. We quickly learned to keep the office door closed, or risk walking in to a pile of shredded paper.

* She babbles constantly. She says "mama" (we go back and forth- maaa-ma! Briiin- ley!) "dada" "hi" "here" "hey" (which she says like a sista: He-ey!) "doggies" and what sounds suspiciously like "I love you."

* She loves to give high-fives.

* She loves to eat. String cheese, graham crackers, pasta, potatoes and fruit are some of her favorites.

* She loves to swing at the park.

* She has figured out how to climb up on the couches, and she is very proud of herself for doing so.

* She is currently in the process of learning the correct way of getting down off of beds and couches. Most of the time she'll stay on the couches and play, but holler when she wants down. The beds however... she went headfirst off one today. Luckily it was right into Tristan's lap, so she was scared, but not hurt.

* She thinks it's super fun to pull ALL the wipes out of the box.

* She runs really fast, and thinks it's super funny when someone chases her.

* She loves to grab bottles out of the fridge and run away with them.

* She has figured out how to make kissy noises with her mouth, but can't do it for very long cause she smiles so big.

*She loves to look at herself in the mirror, or at pictures of her on my phone.

* She also discovered how to make her feet slap on the tile, and she often walks around slapping her feet and laughing at herself.

* She still has crazy hair. It's getting long and curly, but for the most part she is in a constant state of bedhead. She still won't keep any headbands or bows in it, but she will let me put it in a piggy.

* She loves shoes. She gets so excited when its time to put her shoes on. She is, without a doubt, my daughter!

* She LOVES to be outside. She makes a run for the door any time she hears it open. She loves to play with the dogs, and their water bowl especially. She splashes in it, and dumps it out, and carries it around for hours.

* She LOVES the dogs. And they love her! They are so patient with her yelling at them and "petting" them and dumping out their water all the time and banging their food bowls all over the patio.

* She thinks it's hysterical when she farts.

* She still loves to rock to sleep. She'll come over and back up to me in the rocking chair when she's ready for some quiet time.

* She still loves to play peek a boo.

* She loves music. Any time one of her toys or any music comes on, she starts dancing.

* She loves to help with the dishwasher. Her favorite thing is taking out the silverware and trying to run away with it.

* She just figured out how to open doors, and with us having handles instead of knobs on our doors, she thinks she's something else.

* She loves Tristan's remote control robot. It makes noise and dances and she likes to dance with it and follow it.

* She has discovered how to turn the TV on. And thinks it's pretty silly to turn it on and off, on and off, all the time.

* She loves loves her brothers. Especially when they sit on the floor. She'll climb all over them and pat their heads.

Summer

So school's been out for a little while now, and the boys have definitely been keeping busy. They have been outside playing on the trampoline with the hose every day, we've gone to the library a few times, they've had a few play dates with their friends, and just hanging out at home too. Cahl found a $1 movie schedule for this summer, so that's something they are looking forward to. And we've picked out a few new museums and things to do that we haven't done before. They are also looking forward to swimming lessons coming up next month. And so it seems that our summer is off to a good start!

Today Tristan finally got his cast off! He has been looking forward to this afternoon for the last month, and he couldn't be happier. His appointment went really quick- they took the cast off, x-rayed it one more time, and said everything is looking great! He's so excited to play in the hose and go swimming, and just take regular showers! It's so funny, he has a double farmers tan on his arm! One line from his shirt, and another from his cast!

Jasen's class held their end of the year award ceremony today, and Jasen received 3 different awards this time around. Of course, he is still on the straight A Honor Roll, and he also received the Governor's Award for Attendance- which means he had perfect attendance the entire school year. And he was also given an Achievement award by his teacher. And now on to 3rd grade!

Today after the game, Hunter's team had their end of season party. We had it at a park, and so the kids all had fun playing in the water and running around. We also had a pot luck lunch, followed by trophies. It was a really fun time, and I'm glad this season went so well.

So for Jasen's birthday this year, we did the normal cupcakes to school. Then he chose hot dogs and garlic bread for his special dinner (yes, really) with a "basic" chocolate cake with green frosting. And after that was all said and done, it was time for presents. He got his whole scout uniform, a lego set, a new Wii game, a Target gift card, a set of water guns, clothes, and a new Nintendo DS, along with 2 new games. And the his big present from mom and dad was a trip to go see the Tournament of Kings and take along a friend. He was so stoked! So tonight Cahl took Jasen, his friend Dalton, and Hunter down to see the show. They got great seats, and they even announced that it was Jasen's birthday during the show! Him and Hunter still haven't stopped talking about it! They had a great time, and I'm so happy they got to go.

Our little Jasen James turns 8 today! I can't believe it's been 8 years. So much has happened in the last 8 years, that sometimes it feels like so much longer. Last night, while we were sitting at dinner, Cahl said "I remember exactly what I was doing 8 years ago today. I was walking your mom around a field trying to get you to come out!" And it's true! Jasen waited an extra 2 1/2 weeks to finally make his entrance to the world, but I won't hold it against him. He is so much fun to have around, and I am honored to be his mama.

The top 8 things we love about Jasen:

* His smarts. Jasen is so smart, and he is not shy about letting us know it!

* His smile. When he thinks something is extra funny, his whole face crinkles into the cutest smile.

* His heart. Jasen has a big heart, and he'll do anything to help anyone.

Cabin Trip

We headed up to the cabin for the long weekend, and it was nice to get out of town for a few days. We hauled up a huge wood chipper, and the guys spent several hours a day thinning and clearing out all the fallen trees. It is going to make it so nice for this summer, and the coming winter. The other girls spent most of their time re-staining the deck. So I spent most of the time keeping all 10 kids inside and occupied. Monday morning a few of us took a little break and went out for some target practice. I love my little pistol, it's so fun! Then after lunch we had cupcakes and sang to Jasen, since his birthday is only a few days away. He loved the attention, and all the kids loved seeing how messy they could get with the cupcakes!

Today was Hunter's Pre School graduation. His teacher for the week did an amazing job, and it was so cute! They sang songs, danced, and received their diplomas. After the ceremony was done, we all watched a slide show of pictures we had all taken throughout the school year. Then we all had lunch and the kids played. It was a wonderful way to end the school year!

Tristan got his cast put on last night, and of course he chose Bonecrusher Blue since he broke it at a game! I think the novelty of having a broken arm has worn off, and now that he realizes all the things he can't do, he's pretty bummed out. But the good thing is that it turns out to be a buckle fracture, instead of an actual break, and so it will be healed fairly quickly and there shouldn't be any after effects from it. And he'll only have to wear his cast for 4 weeks, so he can be back to his normal self for summer.

Tristan's team didn't make it to the playoffs this time around, but they played a game today anyway. They played against the Sierra Vista Lions and beat them yet again. This was by far the most interesting ending game for us ever. Toward the end of the 4th quarter, Cahl and I were sitting in the stands watching the game when we noticed Tristan holding his left arm. Not really unusual since he tends to stand holding his arms a lot, but we still wondered if he was ok. But we didn't really think about it since he was still playing. In fact, he finished that series, sat out for the defense, and then went back in for the last series of offense. So after the game was over and the final huddle broke, he came out crying. Which is really unusual for him- in 4 straight years he has never left a huddle crying. Especially after a winning game. So I asked him what was wrong and he said his arm hurt. He said that one of the players on the other team pushed him down from behind, and then stepped on his arm. He seemed to be in quite a bit of pain, and his wrist looked swollen, so we decided to take him in and have it checked out. Sure enough, it is broken! I am amazed at what a tough cookie he is. To break your arm during a game, and go back in a finish the game. He is awesome! And I have to say, he is SO proud of his first broken arm!

Mother's Day weekend

This years annual Fathers and Sons campout was scheduled for the Friday night before Mother's Day. Cahl headed up Mt Charleston to Camp Stimpson Friday afternoon with all 3 boys, and I was so excited to have a quiet night with just Brinley. The boys all got home fairly early Saturday morning, but we still didn't go to any of the games. Hunter and Jasen had both missed theirs, and even if we had hauled butt to get ready and race across town, Tristan would have been late to his. So we decided to have a rare Saturday at home as a family. Sunday morning everyone got up early and while I was upstairs getting dressed and ready for church, Cahl and all the kids came down to make me my favorite breakfast of crepes with strawberries and whipped cream. They also gave me cards that they had made, along with an entire array of candles. Church was also really nice. The boys decorated slippers for me, and gave me roses. After church, we all came home and took naps, followed by a fajita fiesta. It was a wonderful day, thanks so much to my amazing family!

Cahl's mom came to town for the weekend to watch the boys' games, and today was her birthday. We surprised her by taking her out to dinner at a tiny little place downtown that she started going to 35 years ago. In fact, when Cahl was growing up, they went there every year for her birthday, but she hadn't been there in probably close to 20 years, since she and Cahl moved to Idaho. So we decided it would be the perfect place for her birthday dinner! It was fantastic, and I think she was surprised and very happy to go there again after such a long time.

After dinner we went over to Fremont Street. Being a Friday night, all the street performers were out! We saw a guy in a box, and we ran into most of KISS, Brett Micheals, Austin Powers, Betty Boop, Jessica Rabbit, Spiderman, and Darth Vader. My boys nearly passed out when they saw him! They even got to fight him with light sabers!

Fremont St has a zip line going through it, and Tristan, Jasen and I got to ride it. It was so much fun! You start on the top (5th) level of a parking garage, and go down about halfway under the Experiance covering. I made it all the way, but both boys got stuck and had to be pulled in. They were so nervous, but ended up loving it!

Spring Break/Cleaning/Easter

So this year for spring break, I made a deal with the boys. I made a list of all the housework/chores/spring cleaning stuff I wanted to get done. And for every item they did, they got paid $1. We kept a tally of who did what, and Friday morning I paid them everything that they earned, and we headed down to the mall so they could do their own shopping. I am so proud of them for being to helpful, and working their butts off for 4 days. And they are so happy that they got to get what they wanted! Last weekend was also one of the only weekends we'll have without any games for the next few months, so we took advantage of it by staying home and having a yard sale on Saturday. We did really well cleaning out the house and garage, and made about $250. Between cleaning and cleaning stuff out, the house looks great! I am so happy with it, finally!

This year's Easter was pretty low key and quiet for us. We dyed eggs Saturday night, and after the boys went to bed, Cahl and I filled eggs and made baskets. Sunday morning the boys got up and found their baskets, then went on an egg hunt! They all filled their baskets and had a great time!

Hunter had his soccer game bright and early again this morning. Hunter was not into it at all today. He just kinda stood around and played with another kid. In fact, all the kids seemed a little out of it, and his team lost 2-1. Cahl and the older boys were not able to be there this week, as the football games also started early. Hunter definitely does better when his dad is there to ride his butt a little!

Jasen's team played against the Henderson Lions today, and pretty much got spanked 24-0. It was their first loss of the season, so that sucks, but I'm pretty sure it will be their only loss! Even though they lost, Jasen was super stoked because he got to play center for a few snaps during the 5th quarter!

Tristan did not have a game today, but Jasen's team played the Falcons. Wow, if I thought last week was a run away, this week takes the cake! Our little Bonecrushers blew out the Falcons, 36-0. These are the games that I feel so bad for the other team. I can see the looks on those kids' faces and it breaks my heart. But at the same time, I am proud that our kids are doing well.

*She loves to run through the grass and go on the swings at the park.

*She won't wear any bows or headbands anymore, now that she has discovered how to take them out.

We had Brinley's party tonight, and lots of family came over for dinner, cake and presents. I made Brinley her very own smash cake, and she wanted no part in its smashing. She grabbed and a ate a little, and after that she didn't want any more and wanted to get down. In fact, she started crying and rubbing frosting on her head.

So once that was cleaned up, she opened her presents. She got shoes, clothes, a swimming suit, and lots of fun toys. Her favorite part was standing on top of the huge box that her brand new trike came in! She was not impressed when she had to get down and open it!

Jasen's team played the Sierra Vista junior Lions today. Our Bonecrushers ran away with the score today! The final score was 44-12. Jasen seems to be getting more and more play time every week, so that is awesome! He is really loving football this season, and is dying to play center.

Today was Hunter's very first soccer game- ever! He did so well! I think he is the oldest kid on his team, and he really loves it. I am so proud of how well he did, and his team won 3-1. It was a great game!

Anniversary

The last 9 years have been an amazing journey. I am the luckiest girl to be able to say that I have spent every day of it with my very bestest friend. Happy Anniversary Cahl! I love you more than words can say, and I am so excited to spend the rest of my time here with you!

So this year's traditional gift is pottery, and Cahl got me a very pretty pot with a beautiful hydrangea in it. He also strayed from tradition and got me a new toaster and waffle maker. I am so excited about them, because we badly needed to upgrade the sizes due to the size of our family and how much these boys eat!

I decided to go the modern gift route, and had a custom leather gun case made for Cahl's shotgun. I found a guy here in town who does leather work, I designed the case myself, and had it personalized with his initials. I am really happy with how it turned out, and I think Cahl likes it too.

After Tristan's game this morning, we ran and got a quick lunch before coming back to the field for Jasen's game in the afternoon. Our little Bonecrushers played the Cowboys today, and came away with their second win of the season! This was also a great game, and the final score was 8-0.

Tristan's team played against the Spartans today and man, it was a close game! Very defensive, both teams held their lines. In the second quarter (I think) our boys scored a 2 point safety, which is pretty rare and super exciting! So the score until almost the end of that game was 2-0. Then in the final quarter the Spartans scored a touchdown, making the final score 7-2. A rough loss, but a great game!

The first games of the season were today, and Jasen went first. He chose number 19 as his number this season. He didn't get a lot of playing time in today, but he did pretty well when he was in. He still tends to hesitate sometimes, and so he misses tackles sometimes. But I think with more practice he'll get better. But his team won their first game, 20-6! A great way to start off the season!

Tristan's game was immediately following Jasen's today, and his team also played the Panthers. They played great, and won 12-6. Tristan is playing starting center, and he did pretty good. He still needs to work on the consistency of his shotgun snaps, but the more he does it the better he'll be. And so the season if off to a great start for both boys!

After the games today, Cahl and I went downtown to see the Blue Man Group. I'll be honest and say that this was not one of the shows on my "want to see while I live here" list. However, I am very happy to say that I LOVED IT! It was so much fun! Cahl got us amazing seats- third row, smack dab in the middle. We even got to wear super sexy plastic ponchos! The show was really good, very funny and interactive, with great music. One of the Blue Men even threw a marshmellow at me, and climbed over the back of my chair. And Cahl got a lump of jello flung at him, and sprayed with some stinky banana mash. It was a great show. I had a great time, and I am so happy we got to go see it!

Birthday

Today we celebrated my 27th birthday. Cahl brought home some fantastic BBQ for dinner, and made me a huge German chocolate cake. And then he and the kids all spoiled me with gifts: Hunter got me a nice bath set, Jasen got me a new set of curling irons, Tristan got me a new purse, and Brinley got me a new book. Then Cahl surprised me with tickets to see the Blue Man Group! I am looking forward to going! Cahl also took me to the dentist the day before my birthday, and I was able to get all the work done that I needed. Not exactly a conventional birthday gift, but I am so grateful that he took a day off work, and went with me for support, and to take care of Brinley. It is such a relief knowing that everything is fixed and fine now. Thank you Cahl! Thanks so much to my wonderful husband and kids for yet another great birthday!

Today was the second trimester Award ceremony at the boys' school. Our little smarty pants Jasen once again received the attendance award, and made the straight A Honor Roll!

Jamboree

Today was Tristan and Jasen's Football Jamboree! The Jamboree is like the kick off to the new season. All the teams come out, and each division does a round robin scrimmage with all the other teams for 2 hours. They play each other team for about 15-20 minutes, and get an opportunity to meet the other coaches and get a feel for how each team is going to play during the season. Jasen's division has 7 teams, and Tristan's has 8. So we were there for about 5 hours while each of the boys had their turn.

Jasen didn't get a lot of playing time, as he is still fairly small on his team, but when he did play he did well. I can see him starting to get more aggressive on the field, and really figuring out what is going on.

Tristan is playing starting center, so he gets quite a bit of play time. He is also small compared to many of his team mates, but he was really holding his own on the field. And so our spring football season has begun, and it's looking like a good one!

My sister sent down a little play kitchen for Brinley, and she absolutely loves it! And so do the boys. I have had to tell them several times that it is a baby GIRLS toy, not a big boys toy. :)Brinley loves the music, she loves to open the fridge and oven, and she loves to play peek a boo and crawl through the middle. Our sweet baby girl is 11 months old now. I cannot believe how fast this time with her has gone by. She fits into our family so well, most of the time I think "Wow, only 11 months? It seems like she's been with us forever." We all adore her so much, even when she's crabby!

*She is STILL teething! She only has 1 tooth, and it's not quite all the way through yet. She is chewing on everything in sight, all the time.

*She started waving recently. She waves at us all the time, and now she is even starting to wave at random strangers, but only if they are not talking to her. If they talk to her, she loses it.

*She has stranger anxiety full force. NO ONE can hold her, except mom, dad and Tristan. She doesn't even like to be down walking around if there are strange people talking to her.

*In addition to stranger anxiety, she is just like a little lap dog! She gets so upset if Cahl hugs me or wrestles around with me. She lets him know that I'm HER mama!

*She has recently discovered the cabinets under our bathroom sinks in the master bath, and our bathroom and bedroom constantly looks like a drug store was vandalized. I have some of the cabinet locks, we just need to install them.

*She gets especially upset if I am on the computer. She really hates sharing! She'll come and stand right next to me, pacing and wringing her hands untill I am done. She looks like such a nervous nelly!

Brinley is definitely our little Princess, and that's just fine with us!

Roses

Jasen has been wanting to do a science experiment for a really long time. So he finally came up with a hypothesis: will white roses turn colors if put in colored water? I bought him some white roses, and he set up 3 glasses- each with different water. One had green water, one had red water, and one was regular water. It was pretty cool to see that the roses did indeed change colors! And they changed way faster than I had anticipated. Jasen did a great job. He checked their progress 2-3 times a day, took several pictures, and kept a journal of all his findings. He is also in the process of typing it all up into a report.
