This afternoon we met up with my siblings and niece and nephews to do some rollerskating. Hunter and Brinley had a great time, and it was so fun!
Wrestling Tournament
This weekend was the big Treasure Valley Middle School Wrestling Tournament down at Borah High School. Hunter wrestled hard Friday night, but after he lost 2 matches he was eliminated and didn't have to go back Saturday.
Engineering
Last week for Scouts, Hunter's group built towers out of sticks and wood glue. Tonight they used weights to see how much they could hold before breaking. Two of the other boys' towers held 92.5 lbs and 540 lbs before they broke, and another one held 720 lbs without breaking. Hunter's held 1005 lbs without breaking! He finally ran out of room to stack the weights, and it was taller than him!
Hunter Wrestling Match vs Eagle
Hunter's team wrestled against Eagle Middle School, and the team won even though Hunter lost. He once again wrestled a varsity kid, which is a little frustrating. I'm hoping that he'll be able to wrestle a true JV kid at his next match.
Hunter Wrestling Match vs Lewis and Clark
Hunter had 2 matches today, one against a Lewis and Clark wrestler and another against one of his teammates. He started out strong in his first match, and looked like he was going to win, but he ended up getting pinned. The second match he also did well, but got his arm twisted around behind him and pinned in the second round.
Disney Dance
Tonight Jasen and Sadie went to a Disney Dance, and they dressed up as Max and Roxanne from the Goofy Movie. They are so cute, and I'm glad they went and had fun!
Hunter Wrestling Match vs Lake Hazel
This afternoon we trekked down to Lake Hazel for the wrestling meet. Hunter wrestled their varsity wrestler, and he lost again today. He is at the bottom end of his weight class, so he is often going against kids 10-12 pounds heavier than him. I know that if he was to drop down into the weight class below, he'd probably do better. But he is working hard, and making progress each week, and I hope he sticks with wrestling in the years to come.
Hunter Wrestling Match vs Sawtooth
This afternoon we traveled over to Sawtooth Middle School for another wrestling match. Their team is much smaller than ours, so each of their kids wrestled 2 of ours. The kid Hunter wrestled was the varsity wrestler on the other team, and Hunter fought hard, but he got pinned. I think it shook his confidence a little, but he is determined to practice and wrestle harder next time.
Shooting
Tristan came home for the weekend, so we decided to spend this afternoon out target shooting. We took our pumpkins, some old spray paint cans, and some targets, and everyone had a good time putting holes in them!
Backyard Campout
Last night the scouts had their monthly campout in our backyard, so that they could go out bright and early this morning to collect food for the Meridian Food Bank. They collected 2 truck loads of food, which is an awesome contribution!
Hunter Wrestling Match vs Star
Tonight Hunter's team wrestled against the team from Star Middle School. Hunter wrestled a girl this week, and this might have been her first match ever, because she looked terrified! But Hunter easily pinned her, without beating up on her, which was nice.
Homecoming
Tonight was (finally!) the Homecoming dance for Jasen. He and his girlfriend Sadie spent a few hours target shooting, followed by pictures, dinner at Olive Garden, then had a great time at the dance!
Redfish Lake
One of the big units in fourth grade is Idaho History, which Brinley has loved doing, and they finished the current unit by making models of Idaho landmarks, reports about their landmark, as well as clay Idaho's. Then the classes held an open house to present their landmarks to their parents and other classes. Brinley chose Redfish Lake for her landmark, and had a great time researching the lake and it's history and building her model out of styrofoam and epoxy. She did a great job on her presentation!
