Tonight to ring in the new year, Hunter and his girlfriend went to a big dance, and Brinley was so excited to celebrate with a bottle of binky wine, while Cahl enjoyed a bottle of champaign!
Marci Health Update
December came at us fast and furious, with all the typical end of year and holiday events, and I added a surgery into the mix! Overall, everything went super smoothly, and we made it through! And I'm super happy that I don't have to go back in for lab work or to see Dr H until January!
Dec 1: Despite having had a cold the week prior, and dealing with the cellulitis in my arm, both Dr's cleared me for surgery, and my hysterectomy went without a hitch. Cahl and I arrived at the surgery center at 8:45am for my 10:30 spot, and we were home by 3. My bloodwork came back good (my white count had dropped a little to 2.5, but my hemoglobin was holding steady at 10.5), so away we went. My Dr and nurses were all fantastic, and it was funny that a few of the nurses remembered us from last time!
Dec 16: Met with Dr Renner today for my 2 week post op appointment, and everything is looking good. We went over the pathology report of my uterus, and they found a small polyp as well as adenomyosis, which is what had caused the menorrhagia, even though there's no way anyone could have known that without having the surgery. I'm finally over the cold and cough I've had for almost 3 weeks, and I'm feeling great! The only sad thing is that I still have to wait a few more weeks before I can take a bath, but I can live with that. I'll see him again in a month for the final visit, and I'm looking forward to being back to a better normal!
Christmas Break
It was so wonderful having Tristan home for Christmas again this year. We spent the break sledding on Christmas Eve, spending Christmas day all together, and just enjoying the visit.
Happy Birthday!
Today our favorite Hunter turned Sweet 16! He spent the day at school, followed by work "like a grown up," then dinner and presents. He loved all of his gifts, especially the knife Tristan sent him, and his new lifting shoes for the gym. We sure love his smarts and spunk, and we're so happy he's part of our family!
Winter Recital
This evening was Brinley's winter dance recital. The competitive girls opened the show with a really cute "Christmas without You" number, then hung out backstage with the younger girls. The recitals are always super cute, and I always love watching my girl dance!
Santa!
This year was our 3rd annual Santa visit in the neighborhood. Cahl was the main elf who drove the sleigh, and Brinley was also a caroling elf at Santa's first stop. I wish I had been able to attend this year, but everyone had a great time!
Marci Health Update
November was crazy busy, and has flown by. Overall I'm feeling much better, and learning to listen to my body and know my limitations. I've found out what happens when I push too far, and I've learned it's better to not overdo things.
Nov 1: Third and (hopefully) last iron infusion today! My white count is holding steady at 3, and my hemoglobin was up to 10! I got some good news too, when Dr H's office called to tell me I don't have to come back until the 18th! Yay- my poor arm can have a break! It definitely needs it- they ended up having to use my hand again today for my labs.
Nov 3: Had my referral with the dermatologist today. Luckily she said my rash wasn't what I thought maybe it was, and is just a very mild reaction to starting a new medicine. I had already started using some lotion on it, and it has cleared up quite a bit, but she also prescribed me an ointment to try if it doesn't clear completely.
Nov 18: I came down and did my labs yesterday, and while my white count is up to 4 (still excellent!), my hemoglobin has also held steady at 10. This morning I met first with my gynecologist to go over the plan for my upcoming surgery, then met with Dr H. My hemoglobin hasn't gone down, but it isn't as high as he would like it, so he wants me to do 3 more iron infusions before the surgery, so we'll be getting those done pretty quickly. Otherwise, things are looking good, and I don't have to see him again until January!
Nov 23: Infusion number 4, and again I thought Cahl and the nurse were going to get into it about calling the VAT for my IV. They did put a call into the VAT, but they were tied up elsewhere, so the nurse just wanted to "give it a try." Cahl politely told her that no, thanks, but we'll wait. They were not impressed, but waited for awhile. Finally they came in a said that if they didn't get it started, there wouldn't be enough time for the infusion. So the nurse got herself all ready to try, and luckily the VAT lady showed up at the very last second! She got my IV in no problem, and they decided to leave it in for all 3 infusions, which sounded great to me!
Nov 25: Infusion 5. I haven't been feeling well for the last few days (I think just very run down from our Vegas trip, stressed out, and now a cold on top), but I was happy they could just hook right up to my arm and get going this morning.
Nov 27: Friday night after my last infusion, I started noticing that my arm was getting sore, and a red spot a few inches away from the IV port. After feeling progressively worse overnight and Saturday morning, and with the red spot feeling warm and growing into a tight, swollen spot, I decided to take my IV out and see if it would help. Saturday night it just felt worse, and my arm hurt to extend, with my fingers feeling numb at times. So Sunday morning I took myself down to urgent care to have it looked at. The Dr said I almost certainly have an infection of some sort, and put me on antibiotics. I'm terrified of this causing an issue with my surgery, that's now only 4 days away, and am praying that it will clear up quickly!
Nov 28: Sixth (and hopefully last- again!) infusion. The VAT was not available, so one of the crisis nurses came down to put my IV in. I've had them come before with no issues, but this poor guy seemed new and a bit nervous. It definitely didn't help that my "good" arm is out of commission at the moment, so he had to make do with my other arm. It took 2 tries, but he finally got it going and my infusion went off without a hitch. My other arm seems to be getting better, and Dr H gave me the go ahead for surgery, provided Dr Renner does the same. So fingers crossed it still happens!
Nov 29: Covid test 2.0. Results came back negative, and Dr Renner has also cleared me for surgery. My arm is so much better, still a little sore with a tight spot, but the redness and swelling is basically gone.
Vegas Trip
Last weekend we made a trip down to Vegas for a mini family reunion and Mike's 70th birthday. We had the best time seeing and visiting with so much family, and we even had an extra day to go downtown and be tourists for the day. We took our niece Mia along, and hit up Fremont Street for lunch and riding the zipline, then headed over to the Stratosphere to check out the views. Hunter and Mia were also brave enough to ride the Big Shot, and it was awesome! We ended the day with dinner at Hush Puppy, and it was a really perfect visit!
Football Banquet
Hunter's football team held their end of season banquet this evening, and we enjoyed thanking his coaches, as well as recognizing all the boys' hard work this season. They overcame a lot of injuries and adjustments, but played really well and had a lot of fun doing it. Hunter's coach mentioned that he is a "yes sir, no sir" kind of kid, who works hard and does his job well. His coach also happens to be his new boss- he owns a limo company here in town, and Hunter started working for him about a month ago!
Happy Halloween
We had Trunk or Treat at church last Saturday, with a great turn out! Brinley dressed as a devil and I dressed as an angel (wish I had gotten a photo!), and Hunter came as a nudist on strike.
The weather was perfect for Halloween tonight, so Jasen, Cahl and I sat out in the driveway with a firepit and pizza while we handed out candy for a few hours. I think this year we had more trick or treaters that we ever have, and it was so fun to see everyone! Hunter dressed up as a chollo today, and he and Brinley hung out with their friend Jaidan, and brought home a TON of candy!
