Pinewood Derby

Tonight the Young Women held a Pinewood Derby for all the girls, and they were so excited! 30 girls built cars, and Brinley's car, Pink Lightening, took 5th overall! It was super fun to see all the creativity, and Cahl even raced some of the boys' old cars (which won every time!).

Alaska

We spent the last 10 days up in Alaska with Stacey and her family, and it was such a great trip! We spent the first day and night in Ketchikan, and it was awesome to have so much time to see everything and be tourists. The kids took off to go shopping, and Cahl and I walked through Creek Street and the historical sites (which was super awesome!) and did a little shopping before we all met up for lunch. Then we hopped in a cab and headed out to Totem Bight State Historical Park, which was so cool. The kids had a great time reading about all the totem poles and the Clan House, and even checking out the beach.

The next day we headed over to Wrangell, and met up with Stacey, Andy and the kids. We spent the rest of the day and the next morning loading up the boat and getting it ready to go, then we took off Tuesday afternoon. We headed over towards Kuiu Island and spent the next 3 days fishing and wildlife watching. We saw whales, eagles, bears, otters, and sea lions. The weather was chilly and rainy most of the time, but everyone still had a good time, and we caught several good size halibut- the biggest one was 171 lbs! Once we were done fishing we headed back over toward Anan, where we had tickets to see the bears on Sunday. Seeing the bears is always amazing, and this time we saw one on the bank by where the boat was anchored while we waited. Anan is one of my favorite experiences!

We headed back to Wrangell Sunday evening and spent the next few days cleaning and packing up the boat. On Tuesday I took all the kids over to Petersburg and to the La Conte Glacier. It was super fun to spend the day with them, and seeing such incredible things. There was so much ice in the water that we couldn't get as close to the glacier as we did last year, but it was still so awesome to see it.
