This month, I very proudly became a Great Auntie! My beautiful niece Sydney and her husband welcomed their amazing new baby boy, Finley Maximus, on July 2. He was born with gastroschisis, but a week after he was born the doctor's performed the necessary surgery for him. I am so happy to say that all went well, and his is a healthy little boy. My heart is so full of love and pride for their little family, and I cannot wait to try and plan a visit to Alaska to see them sometime in the next few months.
Eagle Island
This afternoon we took our kids and 3 of their friends out to go swimming at the beach at Eagle Island park. The water was nice and warm, and they all had a really good time.
Floating
Yesterday we decided to go float the Boise River. We rented a boat, and Tristan and Jasen brought along 2 tubes that we had. We put in to the river just after 11, and spent about 2 1/2 hours floating. It was really nice. The river moves at a nice pace- not too slow or too fast. There are a couple diversions on the river, which create some small "waterfalls" to go over. The first one was a little scary, but it was really easy to go over, so after that they were fun. We stopped at a few rope swings along the way, and Tristan and Jasen both went on the first one and all three boys went on the last one. Brinley loved riding in the smaller tube! She spent as much time in it as she could. It was a fun afternoon, and hopefully we can do it again soon.
July 4th
Our trip home to Salmon for the 4th this year was a lot of fun. It's so nice to have our trailer. It's so much more comfortable than staying at a hotel, and it costs us so much less. I really am so happy that we have it for travelling. This year we parked out at our friends Dewey and Teresa's house, and it was perfect. They have 2 kids, a son who is 6 and a daughter who is 3, so our kids have so much fun there. They have a big swing set playground and a big yard and 2 little lambs. Brinley loved to feed the lambs grass, and Mason spent all of his time guarding the lambs.
The night of the 4th, we went up to a big party at some friends'. The kids spent hours setting off little firecrackers and snappers and sparklers, and after dark we had a huge fireworks show. I wish I had gotten some photos, but there's always next year.
Friday we went downtown and walked through all the sale booths, and watched the parade. It is such an awesome small town parade, and watching the vets march by at the beginning of the parade always gives me goosebumps. The kids love catching candy and seeing the demo derby cars, and they had a good time. After the parade, I took Brinley and met some friends down at a park for the Salmon River Days Little Miss Pageant. It was a cute little thing, and Brinley had a lot of fun. She didn't win overall for her age, but she did win the award for the "Best Spins" and got a beautiful crown. She was so excited about it, and showed it off to anyone who would look for the rest of the weekend. Friday night we went out to the fairgrounds for the Playdays. This year Hunter did the boot scramble, the chicken chase, and the greased pig chase. Jasen also did the chicken and pig chases with the older kids. The didn't win anything, but they had a great time.
Saturday was a pretty lazy day, and we just hung out all day. In the afternoon, we took our kids and Dylan and Maddy out for ice cream. They were all so happy, and made such a cute mess. Then that night was the big event: the demo derby. The kids love to go every year, and this year I made sure to get there early to get good seats in the shade. They always get excited to watch with their friends, and it's super fun to watch the balloon bop. They love to see people they know out in the arena! After the derby and after we had put the kids to bed, Cahl and I went downtown for a few hours. It is always my favorite night of the year, and we always run into so many friends that we don't see regularly.
Sunday and Monday we just kinda hung out and didn't do too much. We spent a few hours with Cahl's stepdad and his wife. It was nice to just spend time with friends and family
