June- The Begining

The beginning of June is always the last week of school here in Vegas, so it's usually full of fun stuff going on. Jasen's class had been working on human anatomy, and they made life sized models of themselves. He did a great job on his, and it hung proudly in the office until Brinley started removing his organs.

One of the other really cool things some of the 4th grade teachers do is called the Living Museum. Each kid picks a historical figure, and writes a short speech to memorize. On the day of the museum, they dress up as their character and recite their speech to whomever comes to see and listen to them. Tristan did it a few years ago as Theodore Roosevelt, and this year Jasen was SO excited it was his turn. He chose Brett Favre, and he helped Cahl and I design and make him a custom uniform. He had written and practiced his speech for weeks, and we were so proud of him. Tristan, Hunter and Brinley were all very happy to get to go see him at the Living Museum and hear his speech. He looked awesome, and all the teachers and other kids told us how well he did.

On the last weekend before school got out, Tristan's school wrestling team had their big tournament. He had been going to practices every week, and the whole team was excited for the big day. After patiently waiting for over an hour, it was finally Tristan's turn. After the customary shaking of hands and good lucking, the match began... and ended about 23 seconds later when Tristan rolled over and pinned his opponent! We couldn't believe it, but he did it- and he had the fastest pin of the entire tournament! We were super proud of him, and he was pretty proud of himself too- he grinned like a cat the rest of the day!

The tournament just happened to be on Jasen's birthday, and so as soon as Tristan's wrestling tournament was over, we headed out to go camping. Since Jasen's birthday is in the summer, he has asked to go camping for his birthday almost every year since he was 3, and we always do. This year he wanted to take our new trailer up to Mt. Charleston, which was nice since it's not so far away and we didn't leave town until almost noon. Jasen got a new bike, among other things, for his birthday. He was really happy with it, and excited that it is a mountain bike, so he can take it camping when we go and be able to ride up and down all the hills. He seemed especially excited about his S'more pie that I created for him! He really loved it, and it was rather tasty if I do say so.

During the last week of school, both boys had their class award ceremonies. Jasen received the Attendance Award as well as the A-B Honor Roll.

Tristan also received the Attendance Award, A-B Honor Roll, and the Citizenship Award. Both boys worked really hard in their classes this year, and we are proud of both of the their accomplishments.

The entire 5th grade also had their Graduation ceremony during that week, and it was really nice to all these kids that we've come to know, who have grown up so much right before us, off on their way toward middle school. And since I'm such a big sap, it was also a little sad.

End of May and Memorial Day

Another exciting event in May was the purchase of our brand new (to us) camp trailer! We searched high and low to find the perfect one, and we finally did. It was located in Oklahoma, but the guy was gracious enough to haul it all the way here to deliver it to us. It's everything we had hoped for. There is bunk room in the front, with 4 individual beds, and in the back is a slide out bed for Cahl and I. The inside is nice and roomy and there is a lot of storage space. We are really happy to have it, and look forward to putting it to good use.

Our first trip with the trailer was up to the cabin for Memorial Day. It was a crowded weekend up there, so it was nice to have our own little spot. The kids of course had a great time with all the cousins and friends, riding the 4 wheelers and dirt bikes. The kids are all especially happy with the zip line. In fact, they were all so excited about it, they tried to convinced me to try it. How hard can it be right? Come on, EVERYone has done it! Alright fine. Trying to be the cool mom that I am, and hide my terror of being off the ground, I agreed to try. And I fell off. Not near the bottom, or even halfway down. No. I fell from the very TOP. I hung on for just long enough to let go and fell flat on my back from 10 feet up. It knocked the wind out of me and I spent the next few minutes crying and making some sort of choking donkey noise while trying to get my air back. So the rest of my weekend was spent high on painkillers and trying not to breath. I came home bruised from the bottom of my butt to the top of my shoulders, with a few cracked ribs. Yay me.

May

May this year involved mainly soccer games, scouts, and school. Tristan's team had him, with 2 of his good friends. Jasen's team had him, plus his best friend and 3 other friends. Hunter's team had him and 3 of his friends. And it was really cool because 2 different friends of ours coached Jasen's and Hunter's teams.

At the end of the month, Hunter graduated from preschool, for the second and last time. He did really well with preschool again, and he is so excited that now he gets to go to the "big" school with his brother!

Tristan graduated the DARE program at school this month. He worked hard, and paid attention during the whole course- coming home many times and telling us all about the things he had learned. It cracked me up, because I can remember doing the DARE program when I was his age, and not much has changed!

April

At the very beginning of April, we had an Easter egg hunt with a bunch of our friends at a park. The kids all had a great time and it was a lot of fun.

Also at the beginning of April, we celebrated Brinley's second birthday! I can't believe how big she's getting, so cute and so smart.

Jasen's GATE class held an egg drop contest, where each kid had to construct something to hold an egg and keep it from breaking after being thrown from the roof of the school. They got extra points for using recycled materials, and also for using as few pieces as possible. Cahl and Jasen found a thick piece of foam, folded it in half, and cut out a small spot on the inside for the egg to snugly fit into. Then they tied the foam together tightly with a piece of string, so his entry only had 2 parts- 1 piece of foam folded to squeeze the egg, and 1 piece of string to hold it. And Jasen won the contest! He had the fewest pieces, and his egg did not break!

At the school awards, Jasen recieved the A-B Honor Roll, and the Attendance award. Tristan also recieved the A-B Honor Roll, the Attendance award, and the Citizenship award.

The end of March

After we got back from our trip, it was back to reality. All three boys played soccer, so we had 3 games every Saturday. It was really nice that they league they played in had all their games at the same field every week. It saved us a lot of splitting up and driving all over town. Also toward the end of March, Cahl and I hiked to the top of Lone Mountain. It's something I have wanted to do for a while, and it was fun. It was really windy that day, but we made it to the top! The view of the city is pretty amazing from up there.

To celebrate our anniversary this year, Cahl surprised me with tickets to see LOVE, the Cirque show at the Mirage. It was so incredible! I'm in love with the Beatles as it is, and seeing that show was a big dream of mine. We had great seats, and the show was beyond fabulous! Thank you Cahl, for making a little dream come true :)
