East Coast- Days 3 and 4

Monday morning we visited Christ Church before grabbing Cheesesteaks from Sonny's on our way out of town. 

Cahl decided that he couldn't be that close to the ocean without putting his feet in it, so we headed even further east to Atlantic City New Jersey! We spent a few hours walking along the beach and boardwalk (and making friends with a horsehoe crab), before driving back down to DC. 

We got to our hotel just in time to go find some dinner, and after we ate, we headed out to see what we could see for a few hours. We bought our metro cards and rode downtown to the Washington Monument, which was super cool to see after dark. We got some electric scooters to ride back to the hotel, and they were awesome!

The next morning Cahl's training started, so while he was off doing that, I ventured out and took a trolley tour around town. I got off and had breakfast at Union Station, then rode over to visit the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, along with the Korean and Vietnam War memorials.  

After I rode the trolley and metro back to the hotel, I met up with Cahl and his coworkers just in time for dinner. We hopped on some scooters and set out for some sightseeing. We went back to the Washington Monument, then over to Lincoln to watch the Marine Corps band play at sunset. Once it got dark, we scooted back to the hotel, and passed by the White House, which was super pretty at night.

East Coast- Days 1 and 2

Saturday morning bright and early Cahl and I took off on our highly anticipated trip to the east coast! We landed in DC, and drove straight to Harper's Ferry West Virginia, to check out the cool town, and walk along the Appalachian Trail. 

After spending a few hours there, we headed over to Virginia to check out the Antietam battlefield. The vastness and quietness of it all is incredible- it feels like hallowed ground. 

After Antietam, we drove over to Gettysburg Pennsylvania to stay the night. The following morning we headed over to the Gettysburg National Military Park, and went through the visitor's center, then went along the driving tour. The number of monuments everywhere is overwhelming, and it's hard to comprehend what that area looked like during such a huge battle. We also stopped at the Soldier's National Cemetery to visit the spot where President Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, before heading out of town toward Philadelphia. 

We got to Philadelphia, and after a quick rest, we walked over to the historical downtown area. We toured Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, along with some other historical sites.

 

That evening we went on a dinner cruise up and down the Delaware River, and it was so much fun!
