Last weekend Cahl surprised me with a weekend away- to go to a Packers game in Green Bay! We were scheduled to fly out Saturday at 1:30pm, but our flight kept getting delayed due to mechanical issues. Around 4pm they told us the plane couldn't be fixed and flight was going to be cancelled, so they rebooked us on a flight for Sunday morning. While we were in the process of getting our bags and checking in for the new flight, they found out that the airline was sending a new plane and we could leave Saturday night at 10pm, if we wanted to. We said "why not, we're already here" so we got rebooked back to the original flight and rechecked our bags. The flight didn't leave until 11pm, so we landed in Chicago at 3am. We got our rental car and headed north. We made it to Sheboygan, known as the "Malibu of the Midwest" just in time to watch the sunrise over Lake Michigan. It was really beautiful, but we were definitely very unprepared for the freezing wind! We didn't stay long, but it was a cool place to stop, and I'm sure the beach there is perfect in the summer!
We got to our hotel in Oshkosh around 7am and had breakfast, then went back to bed for a few hours before heading out to explore the local area. We started at a very cool antique mall where we found some treasures, then we made our way over to the Asylum Point Lighthouse, the Kimberly Point Lighthouse, and the Heckrodt Wetland Preserve. It had some awesome nature trails and we even saw 2 little bucks fighting. Adorable!
Once we had seen all the sights for the day, we headed over to dinner at Van Abel's of Hollandtown, which is the oldest steakhouse in Wisconsin and has been open since 1848. It was delicious, and when we were properly stuffed we headed back to the hotel for a soak in the hot tub and an early bedtime.
Monday morning we headed up to Green Bay for the day. We stopped and spent some time at the beach and stumbled across Curly Lambeau's Cottage. It was so cute, and a cool discovery. Then we headed over toward Lambeau Field to check out Title Town and the stadium. We walked through the Packers Hall of Fame and had lunch, then made one last stop at the pro shop for some souvenirs before heading into the stadium to get ready for the game.
Cahl scored us amazing seats- right in the end zone, and in the 4th row! We could see everything so well, and it was really cool to be so close to the players. Even though the Packers lost, it was an incredible experience to see them play at Lambeau!
Tuesday morning we were up extra early to drive back down to Chicago to catch our flight home. We happened to have a 6 hour layover in San Diego, so we took advantage of the time and ubered over to the beach. We hit up the boardwalk at Mission Bay for a stroll and some lunch, then headed up to La Jolla to see the seals, have dinner, and watch the sunset over the Pacific. It was the perfect way to end a quick weekend getaway!
