Wrestling Tournament

The boys' first wrestling tournament was today. Holy crap! There were A LOT of kids there, over 400. It was my first wrestling tournament, and it was pretty cool to watch. We got there at 8 this morning and we didn't leave until 4 this afternoon. Jasen and Tristan are in different age and weight classes, but they wrestled on the same mat, just different sides. Which was really nice for me that I could see both of them without having to move. One of Tristan's good friends was there also, and he was on the same mat as well. So I was really happy that I could watch him too. I couldn't get very good pictures of them on the mats, whenever I would zoom in, they turned out dark. I did video all their matches, so hopefully I will get those put up on YouTube soon. But these are of them getting ready to come out to the mats with their team:

Jasen had his first match and won, and as soon as it was over, he threw up. I don't know if it was nerves or excitement or what. So that was his only match. But since there were only 4 kids in his group and he won, he ended up in second place at the end. He even got a silver medal!
Tristan won his first match, he smoked the kid. The kid never got him down once. So then Tristan went on to his final round, and he and the kid went back and forth. The other kid won the first point, then Tristan won the second. But the other kid won the third point, and so he won the match. So Tristan also came away with second place in his group. He also got a silver medal.
Tristan's friend Alexander won all 4 of his matches and came away with a first place medal! Which is really cool, because he is also new at wrestling and this is also his first tournament. He is such an awesome kid, and we are so proud of him.
So over all it was a good time. A really good learning experience for us all, and now we have a better idea what to expect next time.

Wrestling Practice

Here are some pictures from the boys' mock "tournament" at practice last night. They are practicing for their big tournament this Saturday. Jasen is the youngest kid on the team, but he tries hard and is really getting the hang of it.

A Sign

I was helping Tristan with his homework today, and on his math page he was working on money. They have pictures of coins and they add them up and figure out the amounts. Well, when he got done with a page he brought it over to me to check. I see a coin I have never seen before:

Apparently this is a George Washington dollar coin. I didn't even know we had those, and they are already in my kid's homework? Wow, for some reason I feel really old right now. Or maybe it is a sign of my age coming through, and I am too young to know (or care) about coins I do not use. This is about as awesome as the Sacajawea dollar coin that came out a few years back. What a waste of time and effort that was. So, has anyone actually seen one of the coins, and did anyone even knew they existed?

Finishing Up

Well, the last week had a lot of ends for us. Tristan's football season ended. They went undefeated all season! So now we have a break from football for a few months. In the meantime, wrestling is getting ready to gear up. The first tournament is this coming Saturday.

Cahl and I also both finished up our school semesters. So it will be nice to have a break from thinking for about a month! And I was able to sell ALL of my old books back to the college bookstore! I am stoked about that. Usually the won't take very many, due to overstock or moving on to newer versions. But this time I lucked out and got rid of every single one. Yay!

So that's about all we've been up to the last week. Nothing too exciting, but still... it's nice when things get finished.

Johnny Appleseed

Tristan's class put on a "Reader's Theater" today of Johnny Appleseed. Every kid had a part to read, and Tristan was Johnny himself!! He even wore a pot on his head! He looked so cute, and his reading was really good. I wish I had some photos, but my camera batteries went kaput. But not to worry, they have since been replaced! I did get some cute shots on my phone though.
